How it works

Three simple steps to your child's first game.

No experience needed — for you or your child. We meet kids exactly where they are.

1

Register

Fill out a short form with your contact details and your child's name and age. It takes about two minutes.

2

Come play & learn

Your child joins our coaching sessions, learns the rules and tactics, and plays friendly games with peers.

3

Grow with us

From first checkmate to tournament play, kids build focus, patience, and confidence one move at a time.

Who it's for

Built for curious kids and busy parents.

Chess teaches kids to plan, to lose gracefully, to win kindly, and to think a few steps ahead — skills that carry far beyond the board. Whether your child has never touched a chess piece or already loves the game, there's a seat for them here.

The Initiative is run by volunteers and is completely free. We collect just enough information to keep families in the loop with session times, events, and updates.

Get started
  • Beginners — learn how each piece moves and play a full game.
  • Improvers — tactics, openings, and reading the board.
  • Advanced — strategy, endgames, and friendly competition.
